I had another wonderful one-to-one tutorial with Michele Whiting. I find that one-to-one contact time with supervisors is where I get the most out of this course. It is fantastic to receive one-to-one feedback and advice that is tailored to me, my artwork and my research focus.
Overall feedback notes from tutorial discussion
I spent a lot of time asking questions about Assessment expectations and Michele was one again super helpful and knowledgeable:
Q: I am struggling with the word count for the Contextual Essay – I am considering moving my Literature Review to an Appendix – what do you think?
A: No problem to add to the Appendix. Perhaps just provide a short summary inside the Contextual Essay and mention that it is available in an Appendix.
Q: I have only recently figured out my potential research question for Practice-Based Research so only have 2 ‘artefacts’ that I’ve made using my proposed methods – is this okay?
A: It is fine – this is a process that is unfurling and you can add other artworks that you did before figuring out your research question – make sure to mention the fact that this has all been part of your journey/process.
Q: I’m battling to ascertain where to put ‘everything’, i.e. what to take out of Contextual Essay and move to Reflective Presentation Etc. (we discussed this in more detail)
A: Ensure that your Summary Presentation shows the link between what you’re reading and what you’re making.
Action points arising from the tutorial
- Consider re-looking the composition of static photos of my work: try to crop out bits of studio background as these can be distracting.
- You have been good at experimenting and taking risks in your making and research: try to ensure that that comes through in your submission.
