This summary video documents the process and making of my oil painting entitled “Deep Ecology” It is part of a series of 3 similar paintings.
Everything is connected. We are all connected. We are made from the same primordial ingredients that were birthed in the cosmos. This ingredients are familiar to us as elements on our Scientific Periodic Table. These elements connect us to everything, including other creatures, the oceans, the plants, the mountains, the atmosphere, other planets and stars… the entire universe.
Deep Ecology is a term coined by Environmental Philosopher Arne Ness. Ecology recognises how interlinked and interrelated we all are with nature. As my research around Interconnectedness and Entanglement continues, I have stumbled across a lot of thinking around ecology and how it relates to interconnectedness.
This artwork depicts an alternative world where creatures abound; creatures that have, not unlike us, evolved through descent with modification, adapted to their environment.
The play with perspective and size aims to disorient the viewer, as this disorientation will more readily bring them to a mental state where they are able to ponder concepts such as deep time, deep space, and our interconnectedness with the cosmos.
