Unit 2: 8 October 2024: Contextually and Positionality: A Survey of my Contextual Field
Fine Artist Debbie New explores the convergence of Philosophy, Science, Metaphysics, Mathematics and Art, seeking to articulate a non-anthropocentric post humanist perspective. This post examines the work of other artists that work in a similar contextual field, looking at themes of temporality, perception, and immersive experiences. The goal is to create a meditative, otherworldly atmosphere that connects viewers to the cosmos and the underlying interdependence of existence.
All Time Reads
I am keeping a log of my all time references/reading since this documents my research journey and makes it easier to refer back to reading that I might wish to consult again. I will therefore update this text from time to time: Alaimo, S (2012) States of Suspension: Trans-corporeality at Sea, ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in LiteratureContinue reading “All Time Reads”
Unit 2: Week 1: 19 June 2024: Testing Your Boundaries Worksheet Q&A (preparing for PPP)
entioned in the introductory presentation of the unit. This will help you start to map, evidence and manage the journey over the next 24 weeks. It will be important for you to remember to allow time to make work in an open and enquiring way, as well as place your ideas within a contemporary context.Continue reading “Unit 2: Week 1: 19 June 2024: Testing Your Boundaries Worksheet Q&A (preparing for PPP)”
11 June 2024: Practice-based Research: Investigation 3 (The Circle)
Since the start of my MA Course, or more specifically since I began researching the topic of interconnectedness and entanglement, I have been meditating more consistently than ever before. During these meditation sessions I’ve started noticing various events and happenings: sometimes behind my closed eyes, I see swirling colours. Sometimes a deep forest green, orContinue reading “11 June 2024: Practice-based Research: Investigation 3 (The Circle)”
3 June 2024: Thinking about Social Media
As a person that has a degree in Marketing, you’d think I’d be completely on top of my social media, that I’d know what it takes to grow my feed and that I would be posting prolifically. And yet… here I am with my 462 followers! Consistency is king in social media, and that’s oneContinue reading “3 June 2024: Thinking about Social Media”
5 May 2024: Artwork: The Cyborg
Whist creating a previous artwork entitled The Enchanment of the Anthropocene, cyborg-like creatures began to emerge, seemingly willing themselves into the painting and the narrative. It’s therefore been a foregone conclusion that these creatures would evolve into sculpture prototypes. I am reading a lot about Darwin’s Decent with Modification which states that humans – and allContinue reading “5 May 2024: Artwork: The Cyborg”
Unit 1: Week 22: One-to-one Tutorial with Dr Michele Whiting
I had another wonderful one-to-one tutorial with Michele Whiting. I find that one-to-one contact time with supervisors is where I get the most out of this course. It is fantastic to receive one-to-one feedback and advice that is tailored to me, my artwork and my research focus. Overall feedback notes from tutorial discussion I spentContinue reading “Unit 1: Week 22: One-to-one Tutorial with Dr Michele Whiting”
Unit 1: Week 20: Practice-based Research: Investigation 2
When Things Go Wrong: Some art pieces fail abysmally. But I guess that’s part of the point of the Practice-based research process. This piece entitled ‘Metatron’s Cube’ forms part of my investigations into whether, when using elemental materials* and/or when making art around the theme of interconnectedness, this makes the artist feel more connected. I startedContinue reading “Unit 1: Week 20: Practice-based Research: Investigation 2”
Unit 1: Week 19: Documenting Practice (Sound)
I’ve filmed a fair amount of my process for various presentations, but I’ve never really paid much attention to the sounds in my studio or the sounds of the making. This was an interesting element – something I might consider when making future videos of my progress/practice.
